I did a tiny appearance as a piano player in the movie E.N.V.I.E. from brilliant director Josephine Flasseur.
played along with Phil (cazals) and Alex (call me senor). It was amazing !
hope to do that again soon !

Interview on Too Cool To Die
What are the secret origins of Damien C Wilde?
Paris, the docks, the XIXe century, 1984.
You were original in a band Dead Pixels? What made you pack up it up and move on?
I was the last member to join Dead Pixels, at this time they were trying to evolve, Lasse Petersen from The Rakes joined as well to play the drums, they wanted to thicken the live sound I think. So I took over the keyboards. But there was 6 of us, I found it hard to work in studio with five other persons, you have to deal with different tastes and visions, different mentalities and sometime commitments. I love these guys like a family but I realized it was time for me to emancipate myself from groups and go my own way. I wasn’t fit for bands maybe. I had all those songs my friends were pushing me to sing and I thought it was the right time to move on. Someone at this time told me that if you jump off the cliff, there will be a nest. So I jumped. (true story).

Why did you feel a need to isolate yourself in order to write songs? Do you feel isolation is the best method to connect with art?
I do. Physically or mentally, I need to isolate myself. I think writing is an intimate process, especially lyrics. I have an introspective relation with Art in general wether I am in front of a painting in a gallery or in front of my piano. I don’t know if it’s the best method to connect with art, but I don’t think there’s any sort of scale or rank in the matter of the way you create or perceive a piece. It’s just my way to do it and I’m probably not the only one.
You’ve moved from California and Australia, what did those specific locations bring to your own songwriting?
Ahah people who haven’t heard the record yet are gonna think I’m some sort of a Beach Boy surfy dude. In all fairness I wasn’t inspired much by the locations but by the journey itself. I find myself more mature now than before and so is my songwriting I guess.
What brought you back to Paris?
The women… no seriously, I was nostalgic. I missed my friends and family. And also the wine.
Julien of Sourya played a big part in your story - what had happened when he heard your songs?
He did play a big part. Julien is a friend, we know each other from way back. He is a tough one to convince and to tell you the truth he had never heard the songs until we got into the studio. He knew I wanted to record, he called me one day, told me to come meet him, he had the studio for himself so we could make music together. I played him a song, Seafarer, on my acoustic guitar and we started working on it straight away. Once we finished it, we both thought it sounded great and decided we should do some more. Then Jean-Paul Gonnod, a producer friend (Phoenix, Cassius, Sourya) was told we were making music, Julien sent him the first track and he offered to record in his studio.
How did the songs change or morph after Julien got involved?
By the end of my trip in Australia, I was playing the song the way I wrote them on the guitar, over and over. I wanted someone to bring a new ear on them. Someone who wasn’t emotionally attached to them as well. When Julien started working on the tracks and I realize what specific direction we were gonna take, I had to re-write some parts of the songs, the ends or the middle eights. I had to adapt them to the production we were making. Julien has a very strong knowledge in electronics he’s a nerd, he loves messing with knobs and faders and he has got a great ear as well. He forced me to go further, to experiment and taught me not be afraid of clichés. It was very inspiring to be in studio with him.
Is the EP a signpost in sound as to what we can expect from the album?
It is, definitely. I want to do the album with the same persons I did this EP. I am loyal to what we have started and I want to conserve the atmosphere we created on this record.
What were you under the musical influence of whilst writing and recording the songs?
I was listening to David Bowie “Space Oddity” during the recording. I never paid much attention to this album before. When I heard Memory of a free festival, I thought that someone had en-captured the way I wanted to sound the same way when I first heard Bob Dylan I thought I found someone who spoke the way I wanted to speak. There’s this other track Letter to Hermione on the same album which is probably one of the most sensible song I listened to. Apart from Bowie, I was listening to Kate Bush, Bon Iver and the last Kasabian album at this time.
What’s next for you?
We’re putting the band together now so I can start touring. Eventually find a good label to work with so we can go back in studio and record the album. Who knows where that could take us?
What’s the greatest secret of Damien C Wilde?
I always claim that my favorite movie is Breathless from Godart when in fact it’s Jerry McGuire.
